Girls, Women and Alcohol: The changing nature of female alcohol consumption in Ireland

Alcohol Action Ireland is delighted to announce author and alcohol policy advocate Ann Dowsett Johnston as the keynote speaker for Girls, Women and Alcohol: The changing nature of female alcohol consumption in Ireland, which takes place on Tuesday, 21st April, 2015, at the Westin Hotel, Dublin 2, from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Experts will examine the factors influencing the culture of drinking among Irish girls and women, the health risks involved, as well as what is needed to bring positive change to the current situation.

Ann Dowsett Johnston is the bestselling author of Drink: The Intimate Relationship Between Women and Alcohol, named one of the top 10 books of last year by the Washington Post. An award-winning journalist with an expertise in alcohol policy, she is the founder of Canada’s National Roundtable on Girls, Women and Alcohol. She lives in Toronto, and is the CEO of the Pine River Foundation, which focuses on adolescent addiction issues and mental health. Click here to view a recent TED Talk by Ann Dowsett Johnson.

Journalist Ann Marie Hourihane will be M.C. for the conference. Anne Marie last year wrote   The sobriety diaries for The Irish Times, which detailed her experiences during a month without alcohol.
