This November sees the first provisions of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act become operational. To mark this occasion, and mindful of the continuing effort required to ensure all aspects of the Act are coherently implemented, Alcohol Action Ireland have arranged a symposium to:
- discuss the challenges experienced in bringing such progressive public health measures to fruition,
- examine the political and legislative obstacles both domestically and at a European institutional level,
- highlight the array of commercial tactics deployed to place doubt and delay to coherent implementation and look to the future, and
- establish an understanding on how crucial public health initiatives can be advanced in the face of deeply embedded, and well resourced, commercial interests.
