Alcohol Action Ireland, the national charity for alcohol-related issues, is delighted to announce the appointment of Suzanne Costello as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Ms Costello joins Alcohol Action Ireland from the Samaritans, where she served as the organisation’s Executive Director for Ireland since 2007, establishing the Samaritans as the leading provider of emotional support in Ireland and a key contributor to national policy development and delivery in the area of suicide prevention.
“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Suzanne Costello as our new CEO,” said Carol Fawsitt, Chairperson of the Board of Alcohol Action Ireland.
“Suzanne has extensive senior management experience in the non-profit sector and we are sure that her skills and experience will allow her make a great contribution in developing and driving Alcohol Action Ireland’s ongoing work to reduce alcohol-related harm in Ireland and the great burden it places on individuals, communities and the State,” said Ms Fawsitt.
“Suzanne takes over as CEO at a key time for the development of alcohol policy in Ireland and we look forward to supporting Suzanne and the Alcohol Action Ireland team during the challenges that lay ahead as we seek to make a real and lasting difference to our country’s harmful relationship with alcohol,” said Ms Fawsitt.
“Harmful drinking is one of the most important issues facing our society today and I am delighted to be joining Alcohol Action Ireland to work towards the introduction of policies that can reduce our high levels of alcohol-related harm,” said Ms Costello.
“After six years working in the area of mental health suicide prevention, I am very conscious of the negative impact of harmful drinking on the resilience and coping skills of individuals and the much wider, negative impact it has on health, safety and quality of life in Ireland.”
