Labour’s Junior Minister for Health, Alex White, is in the process of finalising new legislation to overhaul how alcohol is controlled in Ireland.
As of yet there’s no agreement on whether alcohol companies will be barred from sponsoring sports clubs or associations.
Minister White said he hopes the bill will enforce minimum prices.
“Certainly I think that minimum unit pricing is an important policy instrument,” he said. “It’s one of the things that the government is discussing, and I hope that it will all be resolved in the next few weeks.”
