The Press Association (Scotland) – Caffeinated alcohol ban considered

The Scottish Government will “carefully consider” Labour calls to ban caffeinated alcoholic drinks such as Buckfast, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said.

But she insisted there is no evidence to show that this, in itself, would protect health or prevent crime in line with European Union law.

Experts told Holyrood’s Health Committee on Wednesday there was no evidence to suggest the tonic wine caused or increased violence.
