Globally, FASD is a prevalent alcohol-related developmental
disability that is largely preventable. The findings highlight the need to establish a universal
public health message about the potential harm of prenatal alcohol exposure and a routine
screening protocol. Brief interventions should be provided, where appropriate.

For over 500 days the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill - a progressive piece of legislation designed to change the culture of drinking in Ireland - has languished in the Oireachtas. This pamphlet seeks to explain why these measures, taken together, will provide a reasonable, pragmatic means to achieving the ambition of this required public health initiative.
