Alcohol Action Ireland's submission on a new National Drugs Strategy. A new National Drugs Strategy is being developed by the Department of Health and will set out Government policy on tackling the drug problem from 2017 onwards. The National Drugs Strategy aims to tackle the harm caused to individuals and our society by the misuse of drugs, including alcohol.

On 2nd March 2016, Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP), Alcohol Focus Scotland and Eurocare, held a joint event in the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh to explore and discuss alcohol policy in Scotland and Ireland. Governments in Scotland and Ireland are pushing forward policies that focus on increasing alcohol price and reducing availability and marketing, in the face of sustained opposition by global alcohol producers.

Alcohol Action Ireland's Pre-Budget Submission, which recommends that excise duty must continue to be maintained at levels that reflect our significant burden of alcohol harm, as any decrease in excise duty would be of benefit only to those who manufacture, distribute and sell alcohol products, and come directly at the expense of the health, wellbeing and safety of Irish citizens.
