Voices of Recovery is an initiative of Alcohol Action Ireland. As part of this work, we are seeking short, written contributions from individuals who are in recovery. It would be very valuable to have some stories from recovery journeys which highlight the changes which are needed in Ireland to address the harm from alcohol.
These may include issues like:
• the level of marketing of alcohol
• timely access to trauma-informed services
• work-place support
• interventions around drink driving
• ring fenced levy on alcohol sales
These stories can be anonymous or if you prefer, we can use your name – it is entirely up to you.
Every experience with alcohol is unique and your voice has power
How will we use these stories?
These stories may appear on the Voices of Recovery section of our website. Excerpts may be shared on social media and may be illustrated through animation to highlight the issues involved. We may also use the stories to draw attention to the work of the Voices of Recovery campaign and seek support for it. For example, we might use quotes from the stories in reports which we publish on aspects of alcohol harm.
As part of our advocacy work, we are also interested in analysing the content of the stories which we receive. This research will help us to better understand some of the issues that arise for those in recovery.
Some guidance for contributions
Contributions should be no longer than 1,000 words. We would love to hear about:
• What brought you into recovery?
• What helps you stay in recovery?
• Are there actions which the government could take which might have changed the course of your journey?
If you would rather send your story by voice file you can do so using WhatsApp to +353 87 995 0186.
